Making Chole Bhature step by step
Chole recipe for bhatura:
- First of all, To make chole, You’ll need to soak 2 cups of chickpeas in water overnight. This help them soften and cook faster. So soak them in water for about 8-10 hours before you start preparing the dish.
- Next day, Drain the soaked chickpeas and rinse them with fresh water.
- In a pressure cooker or a large pot, add the chickpeas along with 2 tea bags, 1/4tsp banking soda, 1tsp salt and enough water to cover them. soda helps to cook chole well.
- Add salt and any desired spices to the pot. You can use a blend of cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala for a flavorful taste.
- Cook the chickpeas until they are tender. If using a pressure cooker, cook for about 15-20 minutes or wait for 5 whistle. If using a pot, it may take around 1-2 hours.
- While the chickpeas are cooking, you can prepare the masala. Heat oil in a separate pan and saute onions, ginger, and garlic until golden brown.
- Add tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala to the pan and cook for a few more minutes.
- Once the chickpeas are cooked, add the prepared masala to the pot and simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
- Adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding water if needed.
- Serve the chole hot with bhature, rice, or roti. You can garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice.

How to make bhatura recipe:
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of semolina, 1/2 cup of yogurt, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 1/2 teaspoon of carom seeds, and a pinch of black pepper.
- Gradually add water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and soft. Let it rest for about 2 hours, covered with a damp cloth.
- After the resting time, divide the dough into small portions and shape them into balls. Roll each ball into a round shape using a rolling pin.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or kadai. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide in the rolled bhature, one at a time. Press them gently with a slotted spoon to help them puff up.
- Fry the bhature until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
